NOVEMBER Natural Woman of the Month: Shingai Shoniwa of “Noisettes”
Shingai Shoniwa is the lead singer of the indie rock band from London, England, “The Noisettes.” The band currently consists of Shingai as singer and bass guitar player, and Dan Smith, guitarist. From 2003 until 2010 there was also Jamie Morrison, the bands percussionist. Shingia grew up as the child of a single mother in the government housing projects of London. Shingai and Dan, her classmate and friend, both had an undying love for music and eventually formed the Noisettes. In 2009 they had their first hit single “Don’t Upset the Rhythm.” From then on it was uphill for this awesome duo! Talk about a rags to riches story!
Shingai is of Zimbabwean decent, and her name means “Be strong.” It’s not often you that you find a woman of African origins who is the lead vocalist and bassist of a rock band! Impressed by her unique originality and her bold and inspirational natural hairstyles, I present to you Shingai Shoniwa as November 2012’s Natural Woman of the Month!
You guys HAVE to check this song out. I LOVE her voice!
