AUGUST Natural Woman of the Month: Yaya DaCosta

August 2012

Yaya DaCosta

Yaya DaCosta made her first appearance on America’s Next Top Model. She did not go on to become The Next Top Model, however, achieving only second place. But she didn’t let that stop her! This ambitious woman has made appearances in several TV shows, advertisements, and movies. She was in ads for brands such as, Garnier Fructis, Oil of Olay, Sephora and Dr. Scholl’s. She began her acting career in 2005 after having a guest role on the television show Eve. She has also been seen on All My Children, Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, and Ugly BettyTake the Lead, which is one of my personal favorites, is the first film that she starred in and was one of her biggest roles. Some other popular movie titles you may recognize are: The Kids are Alright, Tron: Legacy, and In Time. Before all the glam and glory she majored in Africana Studies and International Relations at Brown University. Even though she came one short of the win when she was just getting started, she didn’t let discouragement stop her from achieving success. We honor this ambitious and relentless young woman, Yaya DeCosta, as August 2012’s Natural Woman of the Month!

Check out Yaya in this Throwback!

  1. Ally, I like the pics depicting how beautiful African American women are. Their many styles and vibrant colors are as flashily as their skin tone.

  3. Yaya overload!lol I’ve always thought Yaya was a near perfect woman. She looks like a black goddess. And I think she should have won America’s Next Top Model. I’m glad to see she’s doing her thing in the entertainment business. Since I’ve always had kind of a crush on her,I was heart broken when I heard she got married this summer. :(
